Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Oh, the genius of Jane Austen. I just "reread" Pride and Prejudice by listening to a very excellent production on playaway. Playaways are my latest favorite audio book delivery system as my portable cd players have been horrible since my good old Sony quit a few months back. Ack.

Anyway, back to Pride and Prejudice, Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy. Wonderful, funny, romantic, sly, and quite subversive.

I've been a school librarian for 8 years and have had perhaps 3 eighth grade girls tackle Austen, usually Pride and Prejudice. I have many "classics" sitting on my shelves. Perhaps I should emphasize, SITTING. I have extremely mixed emotions about "classics" for grade school and middle school. I might even feel that way for high school students, but I don't work in a high school setting.
